Keep AHMG CNM work hours
I am writing to formally express concern regarding AdventHealth administration’s current efforts to increase the Ambulatory Certified Nurse Midwives’ monthly working hours from 168 hours to 192 hours. While this change has not yet been formally implemented, it is being advanced without the essential step of discussion with the midwifery team.
Certified Nurse Midwives are dedicated to providing safe, high-quality, and compassionate care to our patients. However, significant alterations to our workload—particularly increases of this magnitude—should not be enacted unilaterally. Professional staffing standards emphasize collaboration and transparency in decision-making, especially when patient outcomes and provider wellness are directly affected
The proposed increase represents a 14% escalation in monthly workload with an unknown financial compensation strategy. Such a change would place considerable strain on the midwifery team, risking provider fatigue and burnout, and may ultimately compromise the quality and safety of care delivered to patients. Those that were present with the organization a few years ago felt the strain of a large loss of CNMs. This original reduction in hours helped to recruit and retain. Furthermore, unexamined changes of this nature could have negative consequences for staff morale and retention, both of which are critical to sustaining a stable and effective service line.
We respectfully request that AdventHealth leadership pause advancement of this change until a formal meeting can be convened between administration and the Ambulatory Certified Nurse Midwives. We believe that through collaborative dialogue, alternative solutions—such as recruitment strategies, equitable distribution of call, or workload adjustments—can be explored to address scheduling needs without sacrificing provider well-being or patient safety.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your willingness to engage with us in good faith.
