Keep 5 Sections for 2016-17 Third Graders at Westorchard

As an associate professor of surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, I teach and develope curriculum for the medic students. No matter what grade level, small groups/classroom sizes is essential to effective and efficient education. It would be my hope that CCSD would be keeping for current and advocated methods of teaching.

This puts WO significantly below the NY State Elementary School average class size of 18.6 and larger than the average size of all but one state. This is unacceptable- make a more sensible budget decision, consider eliminating an administrator position not classroom teachers. Is it possible that there could be greater sharing of services between elementary schools? Has the elected school board opined on this decision?

I think the point is well made - with just one more student, Grafflin gets 5 sections, so why not WO? As it is girls talk about fewer girls in the class, so please do not amplify this effect by making it an even bigger class. Thank you.

Please consider the best educational experience for our soon to be third graders- especially with a group like ours! The boys outnumber the girls- and they need attention and patience. Putting them in classrooms if 22-24 would not be the best setting!

Reducing the number of classes and increasing the students per class does not make sense. On June 14th, we are being asked to support a Bond (which is effectively a tax increase) to support academic, athletic and community enhancements. However, I find it hard to believe we cannot find the financial resources to support maintaining current class sizes, which certainly fits within our academic needs. How can we expect to achieve "flexible learning environments" when we are increasing the student to teacher ratio?

Why the discrepancy between Grafflin & Westorchard? The board should have a cohesive infrastructure for ALL our schools. On a personal level have meeting this June 20th with members of the board in order to have my 2nd grader tested for focussing/attention issue. More children in the classroom means more inevitable distractions….how are the parents, children, teachers supposed to handle this?? and state testing starts next year as well. The district prides itself on its numbers why compromise our results with packing our classrooms up??

A class size of over 20 is unacceptable in my opinion. We are supposed to be a community about our schools and doing right by our children. Please do not let this happen.

I strongly support this petition for the success of the rising third grade students and their teachers. Anyone that has spent time with this grade knows that smaller classes are key to their continued success. Please give them all the opportunity we signed up for when moving to Chappaqua.

Four classrooms would be a real problem for the students as well as for the third grade teachers. Please listen to your constituents!!'nnn

Our family has already experienced the reduction of sections in a prior year and it ended up being an unproductive year - not only in the classroom but also reflected in the state test scores. We pay our taxes just like everyone else in town, please let's not do this again.

We moved to Chappaqua so that we could send our kids to a school that does not cut corners.

I have a son in 2nd grade and his learning will be seriously impacted if compressed to 4 classrooms, 1 of which will be an inclusion class. That is just too many kids and distractions for a positive learning environment. PLEASE continue to have 5 classes for the grade.

it is very important to me that we have five classrooms instead of four. I do not understand why we would cut a class in such a well-regarded and well-funded district such as ours. The reasons have not been explained to us.
