Dale and Valley Homes just confirmed that Katie will keep her secure tenancy. I am overwhelmed with relief knowing my friend and her kids are finally safe in their home. Thank you for showing up for her during the hardest fight of her life.

This is to petition Dale and Valley Homes to reinstate Katie Eliot's secure tenancy.
Katie is a 35 year old mum of two who live in a Dale and Valley home in Crook. This has been her home for the past 5 years. After separating from her ex partner 18 months ago, it was requested that her ex partner be removed from the rent agreement. However, now Dale and Valley homes are now refusing to let Katie sign a new single tenancy agreement on her home due to the state of the inside of Katie's property.
Katie was born with a genetic condition called Tuberous Sclerosis, a condition that causes tumours to grow all over the body. She was born with one such tumour on her heart and had open heart surgery at just three weeks old. The doctors looking after Katie told her mum that she would not make her 1st birthday. Katie proved them wrong but has has a tough time with her health.
She was very close to her mum, who lived just across the road. Although a loving mother and grandmother, Katie's mum had a terrible hoarding habit. The house was bursting at the seems and after her mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, her mum was never well enough to sort the house. Unfortunately the cancer spread and her mum lost her fight in 2012. Katie's children were both very young at this time (5 months and 22 months) and the day after her mum died, Katie was diagnosed with Graves Disease.
As her mother lived in a rented house, it needed to be emptied quickly and a lot of items were moved into Katie's house so that they could be sorted at a later date.
Katie's health has continued to deteriorate and she had had to have her thyroid removed due to auto immune disease as well as having several more chest surgeries and the amputation of her right collarbone after being diagnosed with more tumours and failed bone graft surgery. She also has chronic pain from hip dysplasia and Postural Tachycardia, a debilitating condition which causes racing heart rate and sudden drops in blood pressure with can lead to sufferers passing out. She also has fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.
Throughout this, Katie's house has had to take a bit of a back seat and there is a pile of items that need to be sorted in the lounge. Yes, it's a bit untidy, but it's not dirty or damaged, there is no rubbish accumulated in the house and there's not litter all over the floor. It just needs a bit of sorting that Katie would love to be able to do, but she can only do things very slowly due to her many illnesses and the affect of exertion on her health.
She has tried to explain all of this to members of staff from Dale and Valley homes who exhibited no compassion and continued to deny her from sorting the new tenancy agreement while the house is untidy!
Please would you sign this petition to ask Dale and Valley to do the decent thing and sort her tenancy agreement out as the stress is just making her illness far worse.
Thank you all so much!

Seeing these names stack up gives me hope that Katie will finally get the stability she and her children deserve. We are pushing hard to hit the next major milestone so we can force Dale and Valley Homes to listen. Please send the link to people in your life who believe that vulnerable families should not be displaced.

Seeing the momentum pick up for Katie is incredible but we need a final push to hit that first hundred signatures. Please take a moment to post this link on your personal social media so we can show Dale and Valley Homes that people are paying attention to how they treat her.

we don't choose to be sick or unable to do the things we need to. Having s disability is not only physical pain but emotional and looking at an untidy house can cause depression. It's a vicious cycle. Offer help don't make her move. Compassion.
This is horrible. I'm a single mom. I live in an apartment and have my own little pile to go thru. It's so hard being disabled and not having help to sort thru things. I can understand and empathize. Good luck Katie!
This woman has the Disability Act to protect her. I hope everyone is aware of her Civil Rights. Why don't people help one another verses throw hatred? God Bless this family. Nurse of 25 years w Fibromyalgia, DDD & Myofascial Pain Disorder.
I suffer the same ailments as this lady and she is very poorly! It's difficult to understand but she needs a home and stress exacerbates symptoms. Please don't maker her sicker than she already is. Suggest she gets a cleaner or gets a carer of she needs.
Please don't take the stability of Katie's home from her. She already deals with so much physically, don't add to her a mental challenge and stress as well. Do the right thing Dale and Valley, there's already too much heartless in the world.
This is disgusting the way they are treating Katie, my own mother unfortunately shares some of these serious illnesses and she can barely move! Until the people making the decision of Katies have experienced what she has experienced - Do not cast the first stone.
I work in housing and I find this disgraceful. It's also very discriminate. Shame on dale and valley!

I suffer from spinal problems, Fibromyalgia, and several other disorders that cause constant pain. I could not imagine being told that my housekeeping wasn't "good enough" to stay in the house where I currently live.
