Kate Smith performed music written by others. The "racist" song she sang was written for a musical by 2 men, 1 of whom was black, in 1931. "God Bless America" was written by a Russian immigrant, known as Irving Berlin, who also gave us the Christmas classic "White Christmas ". He wrote "God Bless America" to show his love for our country & gave it to Kate to sing. Both of them, and the writers of the "racist" song are gone now. Instead of trying to erase history, because what was acceptable then is not acceptable now, we should learn from it.

The support on this page for proudly displaying a statue that was rightfully removed is gross. The racism on this page is palpable. Let's learn from the past and be better in the future. Let's be a better example for our children. We want wildwood to be a place where everyone feels safe.
