Karuk Tribe: Please Change your Policy around Children in the Work Place

I am a new mother and a stream restoration practitioner. I have not sought work with the KDNR because of policies that do not support families. Not only are these policies a deterrent to new applicants, they create an unjust environment where people have to choose between work and family, especially in early childhood. Why replicate a Western paradigm of patriarchy and control, when it is unnecessary and detrimental. Whether or not these policies are maintained, I also believe that the Karuk Tribe must readily step up and serve their people by providing accessible childcare in Orleans and other Tribal communities. Thank you.

This is a gendered issue. This is a colonization issue. Our current solutions are violent and non-traditional. Stop putting single adults and gender marginalized people against our working parents. Queer people want kids too.

Families are essential to our community! They should be supported .

I feel that all mothers should be able to take their daughters and their son s as small children to work because until they became of age we are their teachers and it takes a village to raise a child. So This would not only save money for child care. This will also save our mothers and our children. From the stigma of being not present because we are working two jobs to make ends meet. This way we can have our children at work with us and you won't have the stigma of mental health and absentee of parents male or female mother or father

Signing the petition for children in the workplace is crucial, especially from an Indigenous perspective. It fosters an environment that respects and preserves cultural values, promoting generational wealth by investing in the well-being and education of Indigenous youth. Emphasizing emotional intelligence and executive functioning through this initiative establishes a solid foundation for future leaders. Additionally, it strengthens the bond between children and parents, fostering understanding and connection, vital for a healthy and empowered community.

This is important for families. Children and families should be a priority for our people. We must ensure a healthy and happy next generation as they will be our future.

Policies are the enactment of our values. The current policies do not reflect the emphasis that our people can and should place on community, especially for parents and their new babies. Please update these policies to align with the care and kindness that honor our Karuk culture.

I do not work for the Tribe...I am retired .... but this is 2023...Times have changed.... Breast feeding is important.... Time with new life is important... Had effect on the child for rest of their life...

Karuk Tribe you need to do better in the areas like Happy Camp and Orleans where there is no day care..

Karuk families deserve fairness and justice when working for their own tribal government.

To whom it may concern Please vote or elect this new policy into effect it would benefit the Karuk Tribe to do so as it has benefited the Yurok Tribe greatly and it would allow mother's to work more hours sincerely respectfully Monica Moreno

These policies will support families. I have never felt more vulnerable than when I was a mother of small children, it is when I needed the most support from my community and employer.
