Hello everyone, my name is Karel Mergl. I am a Freshman, and I will major in History. After IWU I want to go into either criminal or constitutional law.

As a new member of the IWU community, I am delighted to step forward as a candidate for the Illinois Wesleyan University Student Senate. Embracing the power of fresh perspectives and untapped potential, I offer a candidacy that resonates with the aspirations of my fellow first-year students, first-generation students, and many incoming international students as well. I am ready to cooperate with other members of the Student Senate to address the concerns of my constituents.

While my journey here may have just begun, my enthusiasm for positive change and my eagerness to champion your interests are endless. As a first-year student, I carry a unique perspective untainted by tradition. I'm committed to channeling this energy into initiatives that enhance campus life, enrich your academic experiences, and ensure your well-being.

By amplifying the voices of first-year students like myself, I aim to transform challenges into opportunities, making our IWU experience more enriching and empowering for everyone.

Additionally, since I am a first-generation student, I understand the struggle of a large number of freshmen, many being first-generation students just like me.

Having lived in the Czech Republic for 15 years of my life, I also comprehend how hard it can be to adjust to a school/university and the overall environment in the United States.

Even though I might not have accomplished much in high school due to transferring into the second semester of 10th grade from another educational system, with your support, I aspire to make my start here and create an enduring impact on IWU's direction and culture. I want to include everyone in the debate on this campus. Let's ignite a brighter future and forge a path of positive change on campus together.
