Kansas’s EXCEL in CTE program is a program lowering the costs for high school students to attend tech schools. It not only creates technicians for careers in all fields, but sets these students up for success so that they can become home owners, parents, entrepreneurs, tax payers, neighbors, friends. These are the professionals that will repair your cars, care for you in the hospital, make an anniversary more special by doing your hair or creating a wonderful dinner experience. Here is the problem: to save a few dollars, the Kansas Board of Regents will very soon vote to remove Culinary, Graphics Design, and Cosmetology from the opportunities afforded to Kansas HS students. Please sign below to urge the KBOR to retain these 3 programs in the EXCEL in CTE funding, and further if you believe that decisions like this are short sighted. Thank you for your consideration.

I have seen instructors pour into those students and make a real impact on their lives. If funding is removed, most high school students simply won’t be able to afford it. That means losing a pathway that has proven results. It means taking away opportunity, direction, and hope.

Do not make cuts to Excel in CTE. This will hurt the workforce. Do not require a certain GPA to allow students to utilize this funding. I can tell you success stories of students that can barely pass a regular academic class, yet are successful in technical courses.

I went to the washburn Tech Culinary Program my senior year of high school. I was able to complete the program in a year and go on to Washburn and get my associates degree. The program gave me the tools I needed to start my own catering Business and succeed as a chef. I wouldn’t be were I am today without the program and Chef Matt’s help in particular

I’m a cosmetologist in training and funding is the only way it’s possible. If you get rid of the funding for trade programs the economy will crash.

I was a post secondary student with many high-school students. The personal development and individual growth within a tech school environment is unparalleled to other caricular options.

This class helped refine and teach me new skills that would be hard to learn in my household. It let me shine and come out of my shell to be who I am now.

I have seen the impact first hand these opportunities these programs have given students. It would be devastating for these potentials students if the cuts are made. I encourage you to keep these program.
