As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads in Oregon and across the United States, nurses and health care workers are stepping up to serve our communities during a public health emergency unlike any we’ve seen in our lifetimes.

We need our employer to step up for us. Health care workers must have the resources to ensure our health and our families are protected as we fight this pandemic. The concern for our well being and our families’ well being is amplified by the fact that we have been instructed to use the same simple mask for our 12 hour shift and are cleaning and reusing disposable gowns, most likely contaminating ourselves in the donning and doffing process. We are using the same PPE we are instructed to use, between patients.

Health care workers and community members across Oregon stand together to demand that Kaiser Permanente meet with us to discuss and commit to:

Helping us meet new challenges with a temporary pay increase of $20/hr in recognition of our work and the increased risk to ourselves and our families during this pandemic. This is comparable to the amount hospitals nationwide are committing to.

Additional sick leave cover newly hired employees on day one and is retroactive to all.

Provide prompt notice from employer of known exposure, assessment of exposure risk, access to testing, and whether a worker is placed on paid leave.

All grey zone and red zone areas should be provided a new N95 and access to a sufficient amount of PAPR equipment. Caring for these COVID positive patients requires us to be properly prepared to access their needs quickly while protecting ourselves.

Please include name, KP location, unit, role...
We, the undersigned, collectively are making the above demands:
