It breaks my heart to see Denzel still incarcerated. I remember the day I got the news that he was going to jail. I couldn’t believe what had happened. I grew up with him as a boy and was blindsided because Denzel was funny, he was smooth, he was caring, and he was kind. Denzel was never a violent person. I always knew him to be a protector. I’ve never known him to be in any trouble until he started hanging with the wrong crowd. A lot of black boys are taught that violent activity, drugs, and having guns is cool and is what makes you a man. Denzel was in sports and was a leader until he chose the wrong friends. I hope that he gets to rewrite his story and is given a second chance. I know his actions were wrong and that the victims will never get their second chance, but Denzel was a child when he made this awful decision. Allow him to prove himself to be a better person than he was and allow him to be the father his children need so there won’t be a repeated cycle.
