I arrived from Puerto Rico in 1963, and even though I learned English since First grade I took courses and attended college. I worked as a Bilingual Teacher and Counselor in NYC Public Schools until I Retired. In my family we are all College graduates and served the Military. I do not excuse people for not learning English in this country. It is inapropiate to teach in another language unless you are registered for that particular course. I want English to be the Oficial Language in USA and I will proudly continue to speak Spanish among family and friends.

People in the U.S. coming from Mexico or south america should be required to learn our English language--it is what unites our peoples. It's outrageous that an educational institution in this country is no conducting classes in English. This has to stop!

Dear Terri
1. Please stay true to your beliefs in our country and its REAL founders.
2. Continue to pursue your chosen career - we need more like you in nursing
3. Having common sense, thus no LAW degree, I believe you should pursue court action for what sounds like slander by a person who is not behaving as an American -( which is possibly the case), and probably should NOT be in an administrative position. Does the Gov. of AZ know of this behavior from a supposed institution of higher education?
4. I believe it is still a requirement for citizenship for those entering, not born (or natural-born citizen) to learn and speak ENGLISH within a certain required timeframe after being legally accepted into the US. Stay with it lady!!
5. Many thanks to Pro-English for their support of You and American Values ( something our so-called government appears to be lacking).

Your in my prayers for success in this case. I too feel descriminated in the work force when others do not speak English. What they talk about may be helpful in performing a better job or it may be gossip even about me. My parents came from other countries and learned and assimulated the country and language. How do we accomodate all the foreign languages. Keep up this Pro-English in the United States.

This country was founded by people who were denied their right in their countries. It looks like you are being denied your right to study in your native language.
Strange as a Navy veteran I thought English was our native language. Don't give up the fight We as Americans need you to protect our right to speak English whether in school or other places. It drives me crazy to see how weak we are trying to become.

If you do not wish to speak English in a country that has given you an opportunity to become an American Citizen, then perhaps you should re-examine your reason for being here.

I am a disabled person who attempted to go to Prescott Community College to try and work again in my field which was medical. I was a former Helicopter aidman in the Army and a ACLS ambulance driver. I was offered a job at my local clinic here in Chino Valley if I completed the Medical Tech course. I had a great grade point. They required medical Spanish in the course. The professor stated it was supposed to be in two parts but had be shortened to one. I was unable to pass it. The ones that did already were Spanish speaker or had previous Spanish in school. I feel I was cheated so I can relate to this young ladies feelings.

Problem is the new view on speaking English is for them to know it but gain advantage over those who dont speak or understand spanish and take over as majority rule with Spanish. No respect and using it as a tool. See it every day.And large companies simply play into the division but call it"diversity and inclusion." Quite frankly, I've never seen or heard of a Spanish-as-a-second-language course; growing up ESL was offered to HELP others learn English not lourde it over newcomers. Look at the history of Navajo...

My mother's father's parents came here from Sweden. My father's father's mother came here from Ireland and married a man of German descent. Like everyone else they came to America and their children were forced to learn English in schools; in turn their children taught them English. My great grandfather came here from Romania already knowing six languages, English became his seventh.
There was a time when coming to America meant learning English; it's time that became the rule again, and this time, let us make it official. Being bilingual, trilingual, or more is a great gift, one that ALL people should strive to attain no matter where they were born. But everyone must learn English here in order that we all might function well together. Most of the world can speak English in addition to their own language. So I don't believe it's impossible for those coming here to learn it as well.

This is one of the main reasons reasons people are against immigration reform. Either respect America and learn the English Language or do not come to our country!
