No one wants to import seafood when we have a magnificent Great Barrier Reef right on our doorstep. We need to keep our seafood industry alive for our many generations of families.
We just need a more practical and fair quota system that isn't controlled by investors.
A system that's developed by the right people including experienced passionate fisherpersons, that works for all involved in the industry.
Otherwise we're going to be eating imported Hoki and feces fed prawns. No thanks to that!

We have been in the CT / reef Fish industry since 1984, we were one of the first 3 vessels attempting to catch live CT , and export them, at great personal loss at the time. To see the current fishermen going broke because there is not enough quota available is devastating, it is a hard enough industry without excessive limitations.
As a wife of a fisherman I took on being a Licence Broker in 1989, my job has recently evolved to social worker trying to keep up the spirits of fishermen going broke, loosing their crews and their sanity. This insane reduction of quota has been done too fast, without any thought of the fishermen and their families, and a formulae that is obviously designed for financial gains by a few. I could say a lot more but it wouldn't be polite

The system in place now needs to be reformed and decisions made on science, not votes

Its about time knee jerk reactions stopped interfering with our livelihoods. Paddocks aren't taken off Farmers if they suffer adverse weather conditions

We have been operating since 1990 and have never been in this position before. We have obligations to our crew as well as ourselves.
