Our dog was found back at the end of September by a woman that posted him on the Khoz pet report. She confirmed that he was our dog, and then looked up the owner of our duplex on the property records. She called our landlord who told her she had heard that we neglected him. This is not true, our dog means the world to us. We have been working with Boone County for over two months now, and they will not help us. She even refused to give the deputy her address. They say it's a civil matter, but a dog according to law is personal property and on the same level as a child. We know who has him and where they live, so we have done the hard part for them. One of the deputies even made me take down my posters I had in the area they live in because they were "harassing" them. We even went to the Sheriff himself, and still got no results. We are now offering a $250 reward for him, he came to us as a stray and has no papers, but he is worth that and more to our family. Please help us fight this injustice and put him back where he belongs. I have also started a written petition and have collected over a hundred signatures already. If you have any questions please let me know. All we want is our dog back. Your support is greatly appreciated. Please help my babies get their best friend back. By signing this petition, you request that the dog in the picture below be restored to his rightful owners, Michael and Destinee Hiatt. Thank you

Updates

December 11, 2012

The growth of this petition shows we have reached the threshold required to escalate our case to the Boone County administration. My attorney is finalizing a formal demand letter based on this public pressure to be delivered to the Sheriff this week. We are using this momentum to force a review of the civil matter classification.

This is just wrong. That woman has no right to keep someone elses dog. Hope you get him home soon.

THIEVES. Plain and simple. The police need to do their jobs and get that poor dog back to his family.

My heart breaks for you. No one should be allowed to just steal a pet like that.

Give the dog back! He belongs with his real owners not someone who stole him off the street.

If a pet is found it should be returned to the rightful owner!
