NJ politics is a total joke anyway. Let the young people have a crack at it, cant be worse than what we got now.

Age is just a number. If your 18 you can sign a contract and get married but u cant run for office? That makes no sense.

FINALLY. Why are we letting people who wont even be here in 20 years make all the rules for us?

I would agree that if you're old enough to serve in the military then you are old enough to hold political office. Your petition has no age restriction as it's premise. I would revise it to state that the moment one is a legal adult then he or she can run for political office. Interesting though that the legal drinking age is 21 but you can carry a gun and fight in a war at 18. But that's an issue for another day.

As a baby boomer, I recall when the voting age was lowered from 21 to 18---based on the criteria of military conscription: if you were old enough to be trusted with a gun, then you should be trusted with a vote. A strong can be made that the Same principle applies here; if you're old enough to serve in the military, you're old enough to hold political office in the legislature. Certainly this is a "tough sell". But, all outside the box ideas began somewhere.
