We, the undersigned, call for justice for Ntando Ngumbela, a woman who has endured unspeakable abuse throughout her marriage to Sbulele Ngumbela. Ntando's story is one of profound suffering, marked by various forms of abuse that have left her physically, emotionally, and financially devastated.
Physical Abuse:Ntando has been subjected to numerous violent assaults by her husband, Sbulele. His brazen admission of these acts in a podcast, boasting that he has beaten her because she was "used to it," is a testament to the severity of the abuse she has endured.
Emotional Abuse:Sbulele's emotional abuse of Ntando has been relentless. From publicly flaunting his extramarital affairs on social media to forcing her to accept his girlfriends and financially supporting his children born out of wedlock, he has continuously degraded and humiliated her. His actions, including body-shaming and insults, have inflicted deep emotional wounds.
Psychological Abuse:Ntando has been subjected to terrifying threats on her life, conveyed through voice notes, text messages, and even public declarations on social media. The inclusion of her and her children's names on a "hit list" is a chilling testament to the danger she faces daily.
Religious Abuse:Sbulele's coercion of Ntando into participating in rituals that conflict with her religious beliefs is a violation of her autonomy and a further manipulation of her vulnerability within the marriage.
Political Abuse:The involvement of influential political figures, including the president of the Transformative Youth Movement and an ANC parliamentarian who is also deployed to the Department of Justice, in supporting Sbulele and obstructing justice for Ntando is deeply concerning. Their abuse of power to intimidate and silence her must not go unaddressed.
Financial Abuse:Sbulele's financial exploitation of Ntando, including frivolous legal actions and refusal to contribute to the upkeep of their children, has left her financially burdened and struggling to support herself and her family.
Health Abuse:The alarming revelation that Sbulele may have deliberately endangered Ntando's health by potentially infecting her with HIV is a grave violation of her right to bodily integrity and safety. In 2023, he sent a message telling that he is taking his ARVs and wondering if she is taking hers.
Conclusion:Ntando Ngumbela's story is a harrowing reminder of the pervasive nature of abuse within intimate relationships and the urgent need for justice and accountability. We demand that the authorities take swift and decisive action to ensure Ntando's safety and hold Sbulele Ngumbela accountable for his reprehensible actions.
