Mr. Long is an indispensable member of the Meharry SOM administration. His contributions to our academic journey are immeasurable, spanning numerous instances where he has provided invaluable assistance to myself and my peers. Whether it was offering academic resources, ensuring the timely processing of our clerkship stipends, or directing us to the appropriate campus personnel to address our concerns, Mr. Long has consistently demonstrated his commitment to our well-being. His warm demeanor and inspiring words have left a lasting impact on us. Meharry medical students would be profoundly affected by his absence. Meharry medical students cannot afford to lose a dedicated resource who is steadfastly committed to our academic success, akin to Mr. Long. While recent staff changes have brought about significant losses, Mr. Long’s departure would constitute a grave error. We must endeavor to retain him so that the newly appointed OSA staff/faculty can be seamlessly integrated and operate with enhanced efficiency. Initiating a complete overhaul would be counterproductive, and we should work smarter and not harder. Therefore, I implore you to reconsider the termination of Mr. Long’s employment.

His presence has made a lasting impact, and it’s clear how much he truly cares about those he serves. We respectfully ask that he be allowed to continue in this position. I literally would not have made it through my last two years of med school if Mr. Long didn’t work all day AND night helping me get urgent matters situated for me nonstop. He is the reason I was able to timely participate in aways despite having a different timeline due to the specialty I was interested in and worked with me tirelessly to ensure my application season still went my way despite so many obstacles that were put in both our ways. It is a DISGRACE to ever let him go as he shouldn’t just still be employed, but he should be receiving a SUBSTANTIAL pay raise. This error must be fixed while it still can be.

Mr. Long has had a greatly positive impact on my experience as a Meharrian. His assistance in my application process form 3rd year rotations, to aways, to applying for residency has been a huge help and there are no words to express my immense gratitude. He is one of the few examples of Meharry being a home to me and he is a great asset to the institution.

The time, effort, and support Mr. Long has consistently shown for us cannot be understated. To remove his role from administration would have tangible negative impacts on our students. We hope that our voices in support of Mr. Long will prompt the leadership at Meharry to strongly reconsider this decision, for the sake of the students at this institution. Mr. Long goes above and beyond for students. His work directly helps us with VSLO and ERAS applications. He has been an advocate for us. If anything, this man deserves a raise. We implore the SOM to reconsider their decision.
