Each year an overwhelming majority of confined youth are held for nonviolent offenses.

Only 1 of every 4 Juvenile who was arrested and institutionalized was locked up based on a Violent Crime Index offense (homicide, aggravated assault, robbery or sexual assault).

Our Mission: To change the way Youth are tried in the Justice system so that they do not face unnecessary adversity for non-violent offenses. We want to set the standard for persecuting Juveniles to be evaluated on a case by case basis and focus more on restorative Justice rather than Punitive.

By signing you will be keeping teens out of prisons where other methods of justice would be more effective to prevent repeat offenses and future criminals. We are petitioning to change the way teens are persecuted for non-violent crimes in the United States, by Transitioning to restorative justice.

Keeping youth offenders for non-violent crimes in prison is so horrible because these young people don't have a chance to fix the mistake they've made. Furthermore by keeping them indefinitely in prison, their behavior only becomes worse because they learn from around them in their environments more violent behaviors than they were accustomed to prior to being incarcerated. They are not learning to fix their mistakes. Quite the opposite.
