Not only as J'mari God mother but the person who was supposed to help protect him, I stand in the gap for him, the pain, the confusion, the lack of explanation, the disappointment, the unexplainable emotions, the information not shared, the life that will never know what being 17 years old feels like, never have a license to drive, will never wed or have children,.the life who can no longer hug his mother, the child who was only trying to find his way in this chaotic world, MOST importantly for pure misconception that those responsible for his death should not be held to the maximum responsibility.
J'mari and I had plans the summer of 2016, 43 days before he was set to fly to South Carolina, my child was taken from this earth. Not only do I try to comfort his mother and hold her up, I struggle not to carry guilt. Guilt feeling as if I failed J'mari, did I not move fast enough, did I not understand all the conversations where he needed me. I can't go back nor will I ever get another chance to hear his voice or encourage him to be more in life.
As I hold myself accountable for J'mari life, those that were the result of his life ending at 16 should be held accountable to the maximum possibility.
J'mari's life hadn't started before it was ended!!
A child who only loved everybody, spoke extremely soft, who never let go of my hand in 16 years so I'm never letting go of his!!
As J'mari God mother I stand in the gap for him!

To not charge these young men as adults considering the extensive record of one for sure would be a travesty.
