I found the story on Jax on a news page on Facebook when Jax shortly after she went missing. I was appalled at the amount of hate that was being spewed towards a fellow human being. I started following Jax's story from that point and the more my eyes were opened to the hate that's out there and what those in the trans community face daily. I didn't know Jax, but reading the countless positive stories about her from her family and friends, I wish I did as we all could use more friends like her. I pray that justice comes and those who are responsible are held accountable as Jax deserves it.

I am a PhD and concerned LGBTQ+ community member writing to support the family of Jax Gratton in their request for an oversight task force to monitor the investigation of her death. My understanding is that the investigation has so far been marred by accountability and transparency issues, and that basic practices on respecting trans identities have not been followed carefully enough. Please create a task force to ensure the investigation is carried out in a thorough, trans-aware, trauma-informed, transparent and accountable manner. The way this investigation is handled matters for Jax and her family as well as for the safety of all LGBTQ+ people and the well-being of our loved ones.
