This is unacceptable. The police and supporters always say, “All Lives Matter” but obviously that is a hollow statement. If police really want to be respected, they will actually show that they believe that all lives matter by recognizing each and every citizen in the community equally and providing equal service to everyone! Are you truly here “To Serve and Protect”? Or is being an officer of the law just about power and immunity? Please be fair and just, live up to the promise of your office, do right by each and every citizen, uphold the law, and bring Jax’s case swiftly to a fair and just conclusion, just as if she were John Elroy, Peyton Manning, or any other white, male, cis-gender person you would pull out all the stops for! Live up to your mission, your charter, and treat everyone equally under the law.

It is disgusting that police and the media default to such callous acts out of bigotry and prejudice. Let trans people have dignity in life and death and give their families the proper respect!

My name is Jai Smith, I live in Denver and I believe an oversight task force comprised of members from our community can help to prevent injustice like what has occurred for Jax from happening again.
