I'm very sick of the terrible WI-Fi service and noise early in the morning.

This is not what we signed up for. We ask for a refund and I believe it's a legitimate discontent!

This all sounds awful, I am pretty sure you could sue for damages for breach of contract. Although its too late now when all this nonsense was happening you could probably have refused to pay rent until the situation was rectified, raised the matter with the council on the basis of the noise and dust being a statutory nuisance or applied for an interdict on the basis of it being a common law nuisance. Of course how many students could afford to pay for lawyers is another matter...

I would like to add, if possible, that a similar disruptive event is happening in Clerk Street (on the intersection with Rankeillor street). If you could mention that as well, it would be great.

I was made aware that Holyrood South wouldn't be completed by September before selecting it as my accommodation, it was the only one I was offered anyway. Initially I lived in EQ2 Fountain Court Apartments and had no complaints, the accommodation was superior to what I have now and was sorry to leave. I understand this wasn't the case with everyone, some people were in travel lodges which must have been a nightmare. I was concerned with the actual move, which was postponed a number of times. We were provided with a free taxi and that was pretty much it, I expected a lot more in terms of support from the university. I had expected the university to move my stuff for me. Seeing as I'm from England I had brought a lot of belongings with me, and couldn't simply throw one suitcase into the back of a taxi. I was fortunate in that I was able to borrow a friends car.
In terms of Holyrood South my main gripe is that the bedroom windows only open a few inches meaning the rooms are boiling hot. But then you can't sleep properly with the windows open because of the noise, I appreciate the university can't tell seagulls to be quiet but perhaps the builders could unload the building materials behind Holyrood after 6am. The hallway is very cool, so I believe it is possibly the poor design of the building which contributes to the heat.
A massive oversight was having doors which don't close softly, they bang quite loudly. I agree with the other people who highlighted the WiFi problems, if not unreliable it certainly is slower than advertised. I frequently encounter maintenance people in my flat who haven't knocked but just let themselves in, although we are usually emailed if they will call. This doesn't particularly bother me but I can understand others who feel it is unprofessional.
As for repairs I can't fault the service as my window and a blocked drain were repaired promptly when I highlighted the issue. Cleaners seem to clean reasonably thoroughly too, but as they

There is a crack on my wall, and it is growing. The floor of one bathroom has a hole, for more than three months we can only use one bathroom, and it is not fixed yet.

As Edingburgh is a world class University, one would expect it to ensure the safety, security and general well-being of its students who after all have paid substantial sums of money for their accommodation. My understanding is the university was not transparent in regard to the ongoing building work that would serve to significantly disturb the studies of its students enough to drive them off elsewhere which is totally unacceptable. From my view point it appears clear that the university has failed in its general common law 'duty of care' toward the students it has placed in accommodation which is beset by snagging issues after construction. I am particularly concerned in regard to some aspects of poor security.

I have had a terrible experience in Holyrood South. We should not have paid rent before we moved in, and should have received a discount for as long as it took for the building to be completed. As an international student, I feel the University has taken advantage of me. They knew we would would not be able to visit the building in person before signing the lease, and they posted fake, staged photos to the Facebook page to make it seem like it was finished. They did not disclose that it was still being built, that there was massive construction in the area, and that Holyrood South was directly next door to a Crisis Centre, which I can see from my bedroom window. I am afraid to go outside after dark because I have seen several arrests and drug transactions there, and sometimes there are people screaming outside to be let in to the centre. It is frightening.
Even if everything in the building worked properly, which it does not, it would not be worth 500 pounds per month plus paid laundry.

I have been disappointed in Accommodation Services since day 1 of arriving at Edinburgh. We didn't move in our flats until 2 months after we arrived and were forced to live in accommodations that were not of our choosing. Once we finally moved in, nothing seemed to function properly and most things tended to break on a regular basis. There has been construction outside EVERY DAY since we have been here, waking me up and taking away from my studies for my Master's program. Compensation for these problems is necessary.

I am a resident in flat 30. Moved in 2 months after the date. I had to travel in between, which was a hassle because they postponed the move date for the fourth time, so had to move all my belongings to a friends house and move them back when i arrived.
They unilaterally approved my contract without my approved and attempted to make transactions and payment using the card i had on.
Several unannounced entry to the flat and room.
Internet disconnects. Once is was my deadlines for all my essays, and I called the company several times, only to be fixed after at least three hours, caused a delay in submission of my essays and resulted in a deduction of my final grade.
Accommodation manager very distant and cold. Several problems were raised to him but not adequately addressed.
They are definitely some positive thing, but without a doubt everyone in my flat and many of those i met in Holyrood South were trying to move out at one point or another, the only problem was the contract signed.
They charged us money for 'damages' in the room int he first semester, whereas if it is to be done, it should be done right before we leave. (Mine was a smear on the wall - charged 5 pounds)
