*Petition: Oppose Bail for the Accused in the Murder of Entle Manzi*
We, the undersigned members of the public, are calling on the court and the National Prosecuting Authority to oppose bail for the accused in the murder of *Entle Manzi*.
Entle was allegedly killed by her boyfriend. Gender-based violence and femicide continue to devastate communities across South Africa. Granting bail in cases involving the alleged murder of an intimate partner creates serious risks:
1. *Risk to public safety*: The accused is charged with a Schedule 6 offence. The interests of justice require that the safety of the community and potential witnesses be prioritized.
2. *Risk of interference*: Victims’ families and witnesses may be intimidated or harmed if the accused is released.
3. *Severity of the offence*: Murder carries a heavy sentence. There is a real risk the accused may flee to avoid prosecution.
4. *Justice for Entle*: Entle deserves for her case to be treated with the seriousness it warrants. Releasing the accused on bail undermines public confidence in the justice system.
We respectfully request that the court:
- Deny bail in this matter.
