Sarasota needs to do more. I remember moving here before 5th grade from CA and the office lady thought I should know the name of the county I moved to. Luckily another worker stood up for me and reminded her I had just moved from out of state. Her response was I was old enough and should know. I recited the city and county I came from to prove I was intelligent. I will be 50 this year and it still is like yesterday.

I am at a loss to understand how the School Board can vote to appeal the rulings that DJ receive compensatory services. How does a mistake like this happen? Where is the commitment to doing the right thing by this young man? Who is responsible for this situation? Do they still work for the school district? What a terrible injustice to this young student.

No wonder there is lack of trust within this school district. What happened to “Every student. Every day.”?

When we first met with the district (Nov. 2018) we fully expected they would do everything they could to help this student. What we have encountered since then is shocking and appalling. Sarasota deserves better and DJ needs your help to hold people accountable.

DJ deserves an education. He should not have to keep fighting the school district for compensatory education to make up for the six plus years that were stolen from him. He needs your voice to #SettleNow.
