What happened to Chaco was a a disgrace. FWC needs to be held accountable.

This was a senseless killing of an amimal that was well cared for an loved. But because of an act of god, the fencing that enclosed Chaco was destroyed and out of fear Chaco fled the area. This animal was afraid and only wanted to return to it's owners and their care. But instead Chaco was killed for no need. Justice needs to be served.

I've been working at Seacrest wolf preserve for the last twelve years, been in and out of all of the enclousures with others and by myself too many times to count doing projects/repairs at all hours. The BC,s are my favs. Never did Chaco or his father Chanook bother me. They would come over smell me and see what I was doing then go back to the other end of the enclousure. This was a senless killing, Where was the call when they had spotted him in Chiply, Did they tried to get in touch with the local vet(in chiply) who comes out yearly to give shots, that could have darted him. My heart breaks every time we lose one of these wonderful creatures to NATURAL causes. FWC needs to be held Accountable, and take a really hard look at themselfs on how they handle things.

The folks at Seacrest would do well to prepare themselves. Usually in these situations the next thing coming are outlandish claims by the FWC or similar government agency which will allow agents to attempt to occupy this preserve. They should get a lawyer or four and prepare. We are quickly becoming a police nation and it's time to make it stop.

I support Seacrest all the way. What FWC did is wrong and unfair. Wolves DO NOT eat children...never has there been a documented case of wolf attack on humans....they are smart enough to stay away from the real evil creatures!!

Unbelievable! A full and thorough investigation should be done and if this series of events happened as described here then every FWC official and officer involved in the decision-making process regarding this matter and in the actions that destroyed this magnificent creature should, 1) be fired, 2) brought up on charges (to the fullest extent of the law – both state and federal). Afterwards the FWC should be required to overhaul their training procedures to require all field officers to successfully complete and pass a minimum level of animal behavior and psychology courses, just as is required to work with animals at SeaWorld and other animal research, recovery and rescue, display and interaction facilities, centers and parks. However, keep in mind that the well-being of the community is also of paramount importance to the FWC. In their eyes, a “wild” animal outside of its “normal” environment and “situation, might react differently than “normal”. This “abnormal” behavior MIGHT/COULD manifest itself in aggressive actions toward humans, even those that they “normally” tolerate or otherwise “befriend”. If this wolf was indeed near a school, even if closed, would cause me alarm. Scared, hiding and hungry, this wolf could, upon on the children’s return, react in unknown ways. BUT until the school reopened, the course of action described here is unconscionable. AND, in fact, if the wolf had proceeded back north towards his “home” territory, then the lying and deceit should be grounds for termination and legal action. If the facts presented in this petition are shown to be true, then these officials and officers will have lost all respect of, and by, the public they are sworn to serve and have disgraced their position, the department they work for, the people of the State of Florida and the very ethics and belief structures that are inherent in the call to protect and nurture the wild (and even domesticated) animals of this planet and of our state.

This is a direct violation of the intent and direction of the FWC as an agency. The persons responsible for this need to face not just disciplinary action, but approperiate criminal charges at the state, or if needed, federal level for this direct violation of the duty of a wildlife officer.

Lets hope Rick Scott does his damn job and the will of the people who voted him in. I not so much concerned that the person who shot him gets fired, he may have been just following orders, but the higher ups need to be let go for this unneeded killing.
