Juliana is het 2-jarige meisje dat voor de lens van de Netwerk-camera werd gered uit het puin ruim 3 dagen na de aarbeving in Haïti.
Juliana's moeder Paula overlijdt helaas niet lang daarna aan bloedvergiftiging, Juliana en nog 2 kinderen achterlatend bij haar broer Stanley. Juliana heeft dringend medische hulp nodig, die niet geboden kan worden in Haïti. En daarom doen Stanley en zijn zus uit Canada verwoede pogingen haar en de 2 andere kinderen het land uit te krijgen. Naar Canada. Alle papieren zijn inmiddels in orde, maar het krijgen van een visum (als het er al komt) kan maanden duren. Tijd die Juliana niet heeft.
Bemiddeling van het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken kan helpen. Daarom deze petitie. Het doel is zoveel mogelijk handtekeningen te verzamelen, die we aan Maxime Verhagen aan zullen bieden. Wie weet maakt dat net het verschil.
Waarom is nou net dit meisje zo bijzonder? De cameraman (Rachid) die deze reportage draaide is een collega van ons. Het laat hem en ons daarom niet koud wat er met dit meisje gebeurt in de toekomst. Als deze petitie succes heeft maakt dat het verschil tussen een 'normaal' leven en een leven als invalide meisje in een land als Haïti, zonder kansen en toekomst. Laten we met zijn allen op zijn minst proberen dit verschil voor Juliana te maken.

Unfortunately her mother Paula died from blood poisoning shortly after being saved, leaving Juliana and her 2 other children with her brother Stanley. Juliana needs medical care urgently, but wont be able to receive that in Haiti.
That's why Stanley and his sister (who is an official resident in Canada) decide to apply for a visa for Canada. All Haitian papers are in order, but getting a visa for Canada is more difficult then expected. The Canadian embassy in Port-au-Prince is also ruined by the earthquake, and Stanley is advised to travel to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
We have started a petition to offer to our Ministery of External Affairs. The more people sign the petition, the more pressure we can may be put on them to pursuade the Canadian officials to provide the right recidency papers, in time.
But we also offer this petition directly to the Canadian embassy. Who knows it might help.
Please help Juliana, sign the petition and forward it to everyone you know!

I never thought we would see this kind of energy for Juliana but here we are and it honestly feels like a dream. My mind is racing thinking about how many people actually care about this little girl because it makes the waiting for the visa feel a little less lonely. I am just staring at the screen and trying to process how much this matters for her future.

I just checked the counter and it is moving so fast tonight which feels almost overwhelming but we really need a big final surge to reach that milestone before I print these out for the minister. If you have a second please just ping a few friends quickly since the momentum is here and we cannot risk letting it stall now.

I just saw the count hit one hundred and I honestly have to stop and breathe for a second because it is overwhelming to think about people caring this much. This is really starting to feel like something that might actually get to the people in office who can help Juliana get out of there. I keep thinking about what my friend Rachid said and it just makes it all feel so urgent.

ik heb de beelden gezien en ze laten me niet los. hoop zo dat ze veilig naar haar familie kan.
Dit lieve kindje verdient echt een kans. Laat het ministerie nu eens een keer handelen als er echt haast bij is.
Gewoon doen. bureaucratie aan de kant schuiven voor een kind in nood.
Laat dit visum er nu eindelijk snel komen. Die tijd is super kostbaar.
