This petition is in hopes to gain your support in a special exception for 1529 Belfield ave. This building is in the 8th District part of Philadelphia. It includes Chestnut Hill, Mount Airy, Germantown, Nicetown, Tioga, Logan, and parts of North Philadelphia. For the past 5 years I’ve been hosting youth events in hopes to positively impact their lives and prevent them from straying to crime. We Usually rent space for one night to hold our events, but we’re hoping to make this space our home. JTor Inc began as a Non-Profit organization in 2007. We just recently added the LLC to help raise money for our events and programs. Toria Kiah and I founded the organization when we noticed a void in the community when it came to the youth. We noticed there was just nothing for them to do, so they would hang on corners and use social media sites to meet up in certain places. At this time there were talks of libraries and recreational centers closing down. We created JTor Inc because we wanted to be an alternative to the options they had. We use the interest of the youth such as Music, Dance, Arts etc to capture their attention and deliver a positive message in the process. Within this space we will have a variety of events and programs. Talent Shows, Dances, and Workshops just to name a few. We hope to help develop and maybe discover the talents of some of the youth involved, and most importantly keep them off the streets. We want to act like a safety net and catch them before the ills of the world do so. Most of our events we funded out of our own pockets which amounted to thousands of dollars. JTor Inc haven’t received not one grant for the events we do. A list of our events includes “Philly Apollo”, Cancer Fundraisers, Youth Dances and many more. Some of our events were covered in the City Paper and Philadelphia Weekly.
