It would be a major blemish on the history of Butkus award if Josey was not AT LEAST a finalist. If this petition does not get him in then prepare to be embarrassed when he gets drafted and out performs all of the finalists and winner of this award.

This is an individual achievement award, of which Josey fits every category for both on the field and off the field requirements. The only reason he was left off the list is bias against Iowa due to its mediocre season, which was outside of Josey’s control. Claiming his injury as an excuse is also not an adequate reason to deny him, given that coming back from injuries and or playing through them is in the spirit of the award itself as per Butkus’ own statements on it.

This is ridiculous he wasn’t a finalist. He sat out one game due to a shoulder injury from being over productive if you ask me and I bet you it wasn’t even his decision. If he could have played he would have.
