No defensive had a bigger impact on his team then Jewell. And his stats are better then everyone on the list despite missing a game due to injury

As a former collegiate linebacker myself, there is no reason as to why Josey wasn't a finalist. The young man is an amazing athlete, student, and human being. He is a leader on and off the field, and is the heart of the Iowa defense. The fact that her put up those stars, while missing a game, is proof of the caliber of athlete he is. Without a doubt, he should be a finalist.

Beyond stats, Josey Jewel has everything that the Thorpe award stands for. The committee needs to look past the weak performance of the team and focus on how Mr Jewel impacts each and every game.
