Josey Jewell is the exact defensive player the award was made for. I belive if iowa was having a better season

Please consider his performance despite the fact he was out with an injury and the team did not have the best season. However his stats compared to the other athletes being considered should speak for themselves. His performance is far and above anything they have done.

If stats alone were the criteria, he would be the hands down favorite. Considering games missed, injuries and strength of schedule should only reinforce this. Given that he is not the fastest, biggest or strongest linebacker also illustrates his virtual embodiment of the Butkus award!
