Rest in peace, Melissa. ================================================= [ARCHIVED] South Carolina plans to execute Joseph Gardner on Friday, December 5. Mr. Gardner will face either lethal injection or electrocution for the 1992 murder of Melissa McLauchlin. Killing Mr. Gardner will not solve anything, and it will not bring back Ms. McLauchlin. It will extend the suffering of his family, who are just as innocent as the victim, and who have already had to spend the last thirteen years knowing that Joseph was going to be killed at the hands of the state. They do not deserve to go through this. The crime Mr. Gardner committed was very wrong, but to execute Mr. Gardner will result in yet another needless killing and will cause more innocent suffering, yet this time in the name of 'justice'. We, The Undersigned, therefore urge Governor Sanford to grant clemency and stop this killing.
