This sounds like mine and my son’s life right now. He is autistic and in the 6th grade and struggling to get the services he needs. Every time I speak up for my son it seems the school comes back at me with something else to go against my son. Please support HB581. Our vulnerable children need help and it’s up to us to get it!

I think that along with this bill, they need to start giving the little staff we have for special education- by providing more money to pay for the teachers and hiring more along with paying for for the assistant staff members and the substitutes which we lack and it’s not fair to the parents or the children

I have 1 child with an IEP. It took 4 assessments and neuropsychological testing to finally get my daughter an IEP. She is just ending her junior year. What a failure...

I don't even have children of my own, but even I can clearly see the need for the system that is in place having to be changed. It seems pretty logical the change will allow parents a more equal opportunity to access a process that is in place for them to ensure their kids right to an education. It's laughable to think a typical family can financially afford to fight a school district- which has access to taxpayer money to fund them and their fight.

The school and my daughter's IEP team blew off the eval report and diagnosis by a pHD Dr. I am outraged. Parents know their kids better than the school and the school needs to NOT make the parents feel inferior

School districts that are accountable to the student will not worry about potential legal fees. Those districts where students are not their priority, will step up and be accountable and avoid legal expenses. Accountability is a win-win.
