My name is John Ames and I am writing to communicate my interest in filling the open senator seat for the junior class. I am a junior transfer student from Xavier University in Cincinnati. I grew up in Bloomington and attended Central Catholic High School. I am happy to be back in Bloomington attending Illinois Wesleyan University where I will graduate in May 2023. I will continue my studies in business as a Business Administration or Marketing major. I recently signed up to play basketball intramurals with several of the guys on my floor in Dolan Hall. For as long as I can remember, history, civics, and political science type classes have been my favorite subjects. At Central Catholic High School I was one of two students chosen to attend Boys State at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL. It was at Boys State where I was elected to an office and participated in legislative sessions, court proceedings, and legal presentations. Although I am majoring in Marketing, I have also considered law school. The bottom line is I am a hard worker and want to advocate on behalf of my fellow students. I enjoy public speaking and working as a team to achieve a common goal. I know that this opportunity would help me to improve my leadership, organization, and public speaking skills. It would be a tremendous honor to represent the junior class as a Student Senator.
