My daughter, a cancer survivor was fighting cancer for the second time when she was a student at Carver. JoAnne, also fighting at the same time, watched over my child every day. It did not matter if a child made fun of my kid for being bald or my child did not eat well at lunch time, JoAnne would appear from nowhere to defend her and comfort her. She showed us how much she cared about kids by spreading awareness of childhood cancer. She was and always be my kid's guardian angel. I cannot think of a more appropriate way to honor her memory and the impact she had on every person who knew her especially her students.

Jo Anne Acosta was the most dedicated teacher in GISD. She served on many campus and district committees during her entire career, because she was so committed to her profession. She was a leader and sincerely carried a torch for the children she taught. Her students were very successful and soared above the standard expectations. She volunteered for tasks, for the district, that were not in her job description; for example,translating many documents. She was sought out by district administrators and principals to pursue being a principal but she believed in touching children's lives through teaching. There is not a more worthy candidate than Jo Anne Acosta to be given the honor of having a school named after her.

JoAnne was a gifted teacher who touched the lives of all who knew her, both students and teachers. She epitomized all that a teacher should be - she was loving, caring, and she made learning fun. She worked hard for both students and teachers and is one of the most deserving people I can think of to have a school named after her - she was a truly shining example of an educator.

What a very special lady!! I think of her always and I will forever walk in her shoes. Joanne was a great inspiration and leader to others. She had a wonderful way of reaching her students and encouraging them to be the best they can be. What a wonderful honor for such a great educator.

JoAnne was a warm-hearted woman who gave selflessly to her students, friends and family. She was a blessing to those who knew her and I can think of no better person for the new school to be named after to represent the spirit of education.

My Cakes (Jo Anne) was such a dedicated teacher her day didn't end when she got home. She would work long into the night trying to come up with new ideas for students that needed that extra bit of help. She was amazing never giving up on any student. She would be so excited when they finally got it. She would say there's no better feeling in the world, I love my job. I can't think of anyone more deserving of having a school named after her than my beautiful wife Jo Anne.

JoAnne was a special Reading Teacher She was instrumental in helping so many Georgetown children develop their reading skills and develop a love for learning Our schools in Georgetown are traditionally named for important educators and Jo Anne was about as important as you can get in the lives of so many children She cared-and they knew it and loved her in return

JoAnne was one of the most giving and most genuine teacher I have ever met. She was the first to welcome me to the school and I always knew I could go to her if I needed anything. But as a teacher she fought hard for what was right for those precious babies of hers. She loved her students! I will never forget her dedication to public education while I taught with her.
