This petition is totake down the rule banning jean and track shorts recently set up at Peet Junior High school. This rule makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to find clothes to wear to school in the scorching Iowa heat in the spring and early summer. We believe this rule does not fix anything as it is banning a material and a style, meaning girls can wear shors that instead of jean or track are, for example, khaki or yoga, that are just as short as the shorts previously worn.

The problem that is behind this rule, or so we were told, is that seven or eight girls wore shorts that were too short (and just happened to be jeans) on April 11, 2014, and had to change. We understand that this is a problem, but suggest that instead of banning jeans and track shorts, that the staff at Peet just enforced the rules that are set. The rule is that if the shorts cut off above your fingertips, they are too short. If the officials at our school enforced the rules maybe just a bit stricter, such as making the punishment for having to change 30 minutes of detention, the problem would greatly decrease.

In review, this petition states that we do not believe banning jean and track shorts is the way to fix the problem at hand, andthat it should be taken down.We also suggest that the rules already set are enforced a bit more strictly so that the problem that is behind the ban is decreased.
