THE BEGINNING TRUMANS FARM A rented farmhouse with the option to rent more land and buildings in the future for our dream of setting up a wild animal sanctuary. Before moving in our plans for the sanctuary were discussed with the land agent and accepted so our tenancy agreement was signed in June 2006 and we moved into the property known as Trumans Farm, March, Cambs.with our ever expanding menagerie. JAYNE and ALAN At this time both Alan and myself were working full time and had many animals and set out on our dream of making a sanctuary but this soon became the start of a nightmare when I was diagnosed with terminal cancer in April 2007 and had to stop working at a veterinary surgery to have treatment and soon after Alan had to give up work to become my carer as I became very ill during treatment. THE LANDLORD Our catalogue of events. Over the period of the tenancy we have endured constant what only can be described as harassment and bullying tactics on the part of our landlord. These are as follows and each point has carried the threat of eviction if not complied with. 1.GRASS and HEDGE if not cut at precise time 2.Removal of PADDOCK although given as a good will gesture was taken away although there was animals living there. 3.SHEDS to be taken down which were new although we had been told that we could do and put up what we required. 4.Not allowed to put WASHING out on LINE 5.PLAYHOUSE made to take off wire outside as Landlords children might want to play in it although they do not live here!!. 6.DOG KENNELS requested back by the landlord even though we had been told we could use them. 7.DECORATION has to be an EXACT copy of how it was when we moved in and no pictures can be put up unless there is a hook in situation. LIVING CONDITIONS. If you are kind enough to read this you may think that this FARMHOUSE is a well maintained property but we have to add that you would be sadly mistaken as now we will go on to describe the state of repair. Where do we begin!!!! The main part of the house was built in the 1800's containing two up and two down with an extention being added at a later date. EXTENTION comprises of the kitchen, bathroom and utility room with added INCH WIDE CRACKS due to the extention moving (IS IT GOING TO FALL DOWN ON US!!!) BEDROOMS are both DAMP which has caused our CLOTHES,BED and BOOKS to become mouldy. LOUNGE is VERY DAMP with large patches of MOULD on the walls and large dark marks appearing above the fire place which we do not know what they are! FRONT DOOR and WINDOW in lounge are not weather proof and rain comes through both so the door is now covered with a space blanket to prevent this. KITCHEN integral fridge freezer broke down just before Christmas causing us to loose all the contents but despite informing the agent this is still not resolved to our satisfaction. This catalogue of problems is known to the agent and mostly ignored. CONCLUSION TO OUR SAD STORY Living at TRUMANS FARM over the past three years has not been an enjoyable experience and the stress being caused to us while trying to cope with terminal cancer has become unbearable. Moving here was supposed to be our DREAM but the constant interference from the landlord and agent has made us feel that we cannot live in peace and respect for our own private lives. IN hindsight,from the beginning we feel that we have been conned,constantly HARASSED,INTIMIDATED with threats of eviction,and bullied into not being able to complain about the state of repair and we suffer all of this for an extortionate rent of £650 per month of which is up to date.We would have never considered renting this property without having the assurance from the agent that we could have all our animals with us and to continue with our sanctuary but now it seems that the landlord and agent conveniently want to forget their verbal agreements. WE NEED YOUR HELP IN SIGNING THIS PETITION TO ENABLE US TO LIVE WHAT LIFE I HAVE LEFT IN PEACE AND DIGNITY WITH MY ANIMALS WITH A KIND AND CONSIDERATE LANDLORD AND AGENT WITH NO HARASSMENT, BULLYING and INTIMIDATION and be allowed to use the house and gardens for our own pleasure without being spied on and our every move being watched(as we feel).
