Jane Street, West End is adjacent to a riverside recreation area used by hundreds of people every morning. As the non-metered parking around the adjacent football field is filled very quickly every morning, Jane Street is used by many to park their cars whilst engaging in walking, cycling, rowing and other activities. Currently the meter parking starts at 7am. This has caused many people who exercise early to get parking fines as they are unable to get off the water or finish their activity before 7am. There is no other requirement for these parks in the early morning before 8am. We propose that the meter parks be changed to start at 8am to allow exercisers a reasonable time to complete their activities. This is particularly relevant in Winter when it is unsafe for people, particularly women, to walk/jog in the dark. No significant use of these parks is made before 8am by local businesses or others. In fact, from 7am until 8.30 am there are very few parks utilized. The time between 7 am and 7.30am where people are cutting short their exercise or are providing assistance to the children who row on the river has become a revenue raising exercise for the Brisbane City Council. This petition will go to the Brisbane City Council.
