Janani Dharmarajan, Freshman, Senator Position
Hi everyone, my name is Janani Dharmarajan! I'm currently a biology major, and am super excited to find ways to lead the student body on campus through a position as Senator.
To begin, I'd like to mention that I am a native of Bloomington-Normal and have had numerous experiences within our own town, developing connections with community leaders, fostering relationships, and finding ways to make Bloomington a better place. I went to a fairly small school and held a position as "Chief of Staff" in our student government, which I believe has allowed me to seek out flaws and find viable solutions to fix them, while giving the student body a voice. Being a Senator at such a small school allows for easier access to student inquiries and suggestions, making problem-solving more efficient and much more personalized. I also think that my experiences working with nonprofits in town and fundraising for them has increased my level team-building skills and my role as a leader. Additionally, as an extrovert, I believe that my social skills can enhance my role as a Senator, making it easier to speak with students and faculty on how best to improve our Titan community.
I also want to touch on how being a Senator would change my experience at IWU. Being in a leadership position poses a learning curve, and navigating through that would inevitably increase my patience and communication skills, which are both essential to my future career plan, which involves heavy interaction with people of various backgrounds. This position would enable me to not only change our community and issues we care about, but change future communities I'm a part of, which is why I hope that you would consider me to be a Senator for the freshmen class. Thank you for considering my application to be a Senator!
