This is a petition to improve the dining facilities of the Jake residences.
Since the JAKE dining hall closed down for construction in 2016 we have been neglected in the quality and quantity of food we have been receiving and there are a few matters that need to be addressed.
Firstly these residences do not have access to the luxuries the Men's residences receive at Monate , for example : toasted sandwiches , salads , fruit, muesli , cereals and even frozen meals and snacks . We as the Jake residences feel this is extremely unfair as we pay the same residence fees and thus expect the same food quality and services.
Secondly we have now been informed that we may no longer have access to the Klooster Dining hall on Campus which would be justified if we had a fully functional dining hall (which we do not).
It is merely impossible to get lunch at the Magrietjie and Madilief dining hall during class hours as you easily wait up to an hour for food as the service is extremely slow and the dining hall is understaffed.
The amount of money we receive on our Fundi cards is not at all enough to be able to cater for ourselves and we are prohibited from using cooking appliances in our rooms.
We have been informed that our dining hall will only be functioning in June which none of us can rely on as the same thing was promised

The momentum we have built makes it impossible for the university administration to keep ignoring our hunger. They have been stalling since 2016 but these numbers prove we are done waiting for their broken promises.

Totally unacceptable that the JAKE hall is not in use already for at least 15 months now, although many promises were made. But we have to pay the full amount!
It is really unfair that we pay the same amount for hardly any food options. Also the vegetarian lunch options are so limited that on some days all you can get is a spoon of rice and a spoon of carrots and broccoli. This is ridiculous and needs to be addressed ASAP
At least a month or two into first year(2017) I resorted to eating microwaveable meals in my room. The dining hall meals were not worth the walk or the wait.
This situation is not only unacceptable but it is sexist as well. We have been waiting for the JAKE dining hall renovations for much longer than we had to. Now the Klooster is also taken away from us. We deserve the same quality and variety of food than the men's residences! Especially since we pay the same amount of food levies. Truly, this issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
We have been told for over a year that JAKE would be up and running latest 2018. We keep on being told updates and excuses and the food we are being served is unhealthy and finishes quickly.
