Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs is urging Home Depot and Lowe’s to reform their military discount policies for veterans.

Home Depot and Lowe’s Corporate Policy offers an everyday 10% discount to active duty, retired military veterans or those with a VA Card who receive benefits through the VA.

While Home Depot & Lowe’s offers a 10% military discount to all veterans on Veterans Day, 4th of July and Memorial Day, not all veterans have retired in the military and not all veterans qualify for the VA card, leaving a vast number of our heroes unrecognized.

Historically, veterans have not always received the honor they deserve and each and every time a veteran goes into a Home Depot or Lowe’s and is rejected a 10% discount because he isn’t the “right kind” of veteran, this just reopens the wound. After all, retired, disabled or not, didn’t they all equally put their life on the line?

“Our Erie County veterans love Lowe’s and Home Depot, but they are troubled by this unequal treatment of the veteran community,” said Jacobs.

Jacobs will be urging County Clerks throughout New York State to disseminate this petition. “New York State’s veteran community is one of the largest in the country, and we believe their voices will be heard and this policy will be reformed,” said Jacobs.

The number of veterans only continues to grow as more and more military are discharged. These heroes are coming back home after serving our country to start families and build homes. It would be a wonderful and meaningful gesture for Home Depot & Lowe’s to extend the 10% discount to ALL veterans, every day. After all, they didn’t choose only three days out of the year to keep us safe.
