Playing at Yale from 2010-2013, we finished anywhere from first to fourth in the league, in three of my four seasons. And in none of those years did we go to or even have an opportunity to go to the NCAA tournament. The way our schedule was set up meant that after one or two league losses, your shot at a post-season bid was essentially gone. Adding a four-team, conference tournament (like every other field hockey conference in the country) would make the entirerty of the conference season meaningful and give teams with a few losses motivation for the rest of the way through.
Luckily for me, I had a medical red shirt year that allowed me to play my final season in the ACC for Wake Forest University. After finishing fourth in the regular season we were granted the opportunity to compete in the 7 team ACC tournament— see video
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AURq2ZyXcU). We went on a run and won three straight games to claim the 2014 ACC championship. This win gave us an automatic birth to NCAAs where prior to the tournament we were considered a bubble team.
Now as a coach in the Big Ten, I can only reiterate the importance of a conference tournament. Not only does a tournament provide the ultimate competitive experience for student athletes, but it also prepares the eventual champion for upcoming competition in the NCAA tournament.
If the Ivy League is serious about contending for national championships as a conference, the implementation of a post season conference tournament in field hockey is a no-brainer.

My daughter is a freshman at Yale and has just participated in a post season conference. I think that the players would benefit hugely (as well as enjoy) playing their fellow Ivy League teams out of the usual season timetable.

To not have a tournament, robs our teams of the chance to compete at the next level. I fully support a tournament for ALL Ivy sports.

How could this tournament not already exist? I strongly support this proposal. Yale 1980; Field Hockey Captain '78 and '79.

This would do a lot for Ivy League field hockey to help attract quality student athletes who may choose other programs because of the lack of tournament play.
