Changes need to be made to make our campus safer for everyone. When these changes are made more independence will be given to those that benefit from the changes and new accommodations.

Campus housing at IUPUI such as Ball Hall, The Tower, Riverwalk Apartments need strobe lights in the rooms of students. These strobe lights will be for the fire alarm. The lights will be the alert for those that can not hear. This will benefit those that are deaf and hard of hearing. It will allow more individuals to reach safety when needed and also give them a sense of security. If this change is made it could potentially save a life.

The entrances and exits of Hine Hall and The Tower need automatic doors. This will allow those with a walker or wheel chair to get through the doors easier and independently. Not having automatic doors makes them rely on another individuals help them get through the door safely.

More verbal cross walks are needed though out our campus for those that are blind or vision impaired. Some people are unable to see the orange hand telling them not to cross and the white body telling them to proceed to walk. These individuals often times rely on others to get across the road safely. If the campus made changes and provided them with verbal instructions then accidents are less likely to happen and individuals will have more independence.
