Maltese has many words derived from Italian, currently, most Maltese words are derived from Italian. Italian has been used in Malta for a long time and it was our official language for more than 3 hundred years, till the early 20th century when it voted that English be our third official language. In fact we still get Italian channels and these can help us understand the language.
