Bottled water is wasteful and polluting from manufacture to disposal because, according toWellington Water Watchers, The Environmental Working Group, and the Environmental Protection Agency:
1. The bottles require fossil fuels and copious amounts of water to generate.
2.The plastic releases potentially harmful chemicals into our drinking water and natural waters such as the endocrine disrupter BPA and the toxic metalloid antimony.
3.Discarded bottles accumulate in landfills across the nation, and here in Ames most are incinerated, thereby releasing chemicals into the air.
4.The water quality in Ames is excellent, so there is no need to waste money on bottled water.
Therefore, we, the undersigned, object to the sale of bottled water on the Iowa State University campus. In its place we would like to see more water refilling stations and sales of reusable water bottles.
yes pls!! i carry my own bottle everywhere anyway. way cheaper and better for the planet.
