I think getting students that increase diversity to the college campus is pretty important. And also those are the people that are willing to give back to the community, which is a long term giving process.

I appreciate Lafayette's intention to increase need-blind financial aid, but not at Posse's expense. I worked with several Posse members at Lafayette who brought great leadership skills and insights to our community, and I think terminating the program at Lafayette would deprive the college of badly needed voices.

Lafayette has a new plan to redirect funding for Posse towards general, need-blind financial aid. But is this the most effective way to increase the college's diversity and cohesion across racial, socioeconomic, and other lines? By channeling money into Posse, Lafayette is tapping into the energies and resources of a powerful organization that brings so much to this campus. It's a bigger return on investment than any financial aid package could ever be. Please stand with Posse.

No one is arguing that need blind is a bad thing. It's a beautiful thing, but not at Posse's expense. Our community is saying we need DC Posse Scholars; please listen to our voice and reject this recommendation from the presidential working group. If we are truly a connected community, if we are really trying to live connected and lead change, keep our leaders around.

Just because an organization's membership does not include all of the students on campus, does not mean that their presence is not felt in every corner of our community. Throughout college I have seen Posse Scholars rise in moments where other students have stayed silent. Posse is a part of the Lafayette community, to remove any element of this program is to lessen our community.

In the goal of becoming need-blind and more welcoming to diverse students, Posse is absolutely necessary because with the current climate at Lafayette College, it is difficult to "fit in" unless you are white, from the Northeast, and wealthy, and Posse is one of the most open and welcoming groups on this campus. While Posse student are not your "teaching moment", they deserve their spots on this campus and their value to the many organizations and majors that they participate in and lead are worth far more than the comparatively slim cost it takes to pay their tuition!

when you demand over-performance of one group in order to justify their place, you're telling them they don't really belong at all. Lafayette needs Posse for innumerable reasons. We already live on a hill, don't make us a bubble.

Posse provides an integral service to the Lafayette College community. Posse Scholars serve as leaders on campus who, through both their varied community and their involvement in different organizations, have been a boon to Lafayette College.
