This petition is to voice our disapproval of the proposed reduction in office space. The undersigned feel they were not consulted at all during the planning process, and hence their opinions were not heard. As PhD students and Research Associates, it is vital our office space provides us with a positive environment to enable creativity and collaboration, which will improve our research output. Halving our working space will have a detrimental effect on both our productivity and motivation to work. The apparent lack of consideration the University seems to have for these factors is unsatisfactory and further undermines our motivation, jeopardizing our contributions to the University.

We appreciate there is pressure on spaces, however we feel:
1) a consultation with relevant student representatives is a requirement and
2) other solutions are available: for example there are a lot of underutilized lecture rooms which are currently only used for a fraction of the university semesters, for example EM3.2,3.3,3.6,3.7. Some of these could be converted into additional office space and we believe this would be an adequate compromise.

Regards,

The Undersigned.
