Senate Bill 1028 known as the Sharia Bill of Tennessee would criminalize Muslims for adhering to Sharia, or "two or more persons conspiring to support, or acting in concert in support of, sharia or in furtherance of the imposition of sharia within any state or territory of the United States," with up to 15 years in prison. This would criminalize organizations teaching Qur'an or Sunnah including Mosques and Islamic Schools. Prosecution of religion against Muslims will be the result of this bill. Petition to prevent this bill from becoming a law in Tennessee.
The language in this bill threatens the fundamental rights of our neighbors to worship openly and without fear of state intervention. I have spent the last few days meeting with community leaders to discuss how we can best challenge this legislation in the coming weeks. Your attention to these developments helps ensure that this proposal does not quietly become law.

The steady growth of this movement reflects a shared commitment to protecting the fundamental right to practice one's faith without fear of criminalization. Each person who joins this effort reinforces the message that targeting a religious community for their beliefs has no place in our legal system.

This is unconstitutional and just plain wrong. Leave people alone to practice their own faith in peace.
