You should make a new label called "1825 - The Erie" in honor of the canal and it's importance to business, history and truly the growth of Buffalo. That canal and it's relationship to the grain milling industry are so tied to the wealth and growth of Buffalo. This seems so much more pertinent to Buffalo then "1842 Iroquois". I know that's what the beer had been called, but ... why not highlight a positive aspect of your history; one a brewery (ahem grain mills) is directly related to!!!! People love that kind of thing! :-) Just saying. Thanks for reading.

I did a little reading and it seems maybe we should all do the same. This brewery has removed all native imagery from the branding, has plans to educate people about the harm indigenous branding has caused indigenous people in the past, has pledged to rebrand the beer to "Iri Beer" within three years, and plans to make sizable donations to indigenous organizations from the sale of the beer. So, it seems like this is progress. In Buffalo, there are hundreds of businesses, roads, stores, and school districts which use the word Iroquois as their name. It's not Haudenosaunee Ale.

There are far better and more creative options out there for product naming that do not have the harmful impact of stealing from and negatively associating a product with a living people in one's own community. I hope you do the right thing!

I'm really disappointed in CBW for this move. Seeking permission from the family that originally "owned" Iroquois and not consulting your Native neighbors is implicitly contributing to white supremacy in out community. I say implicit b/c I know that was not CBW's intention, nevertheless it is the result.
I really enjoy drinking at CBW and appreciate all they do to support the community but this is a big misstep and I won't be patronizing them until this is ended.

I support this issue because we here in Cherokee, North Carolina are fighting this VERY SAME ISSUE! It’s not honorable nor respectful. A little bit of research would have foreseen this, but neither corporations put that research in what they were naming their beer. Totally agree with this petition. I do not believe that this is appropriate due to the fact that Native Americans are highly susceptible to alcoholism and finding it in bad taste to put a group of indigenous people on an item that is harmful to even a minority that I have learned about in history classes.

Wait... from what I understand, community beer works will be using no Indian imagery of any kind. Do you not know this? So, how would this non Indian imagery negatively hurt children?
Lastly, how is The name Iroquois being appropriated if the tribe never owned the name. Is it not true that Iroquois name came from non Native Americans?
This petition does not seem authentic or dealing with the facts!

I've gone to cbw fundraisers and have always enjoyed supporting them. Now I hope they can look in their hearts and live up to their name in supporting their community by not trying to revive a brand that's rooted in old thinking and racism.
