Ireland should open an Embassy in Chile - as Chile has one in Ireland

In addition to being a vital service for Irish-Chilean Communities, there is much economic reason for Ireland to do this.
Since 2005, Irish-Latin American Trade has quadrupled from €1.27 Billion, to €5.33 Billion. Yet, just like a decade ago, there are only three embassies in the region - in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico - meaning that Chile is our largest trading partner in Latin America without an embassy.
In addition, Enterprise Ireland only has one or two employees, of 700, committed full-time towards Latin America. The IDA is in a similar situation. Ireland is surely losing tens of millions of euros annually because of this.
Finally, Ireland should also open an embassy given that Chile has made the effort of establishing an embassy in Dublin. It would show respect to a country with whom we have deep historical connections: Chile's Independence Leader, Bernardo O'Higgins, had a father from County Sligo. Chile is also a country which has recently signed a Working Holiday Agreement with Ireland, meaning there will soon be a significant increase in population of the Irish-Chilean Communities.

If there is a Chilean embassy in Ireland then there should be an Irish embassy in Chile.

The Embassy is a vital service to Irish travellers such as myself. It is an important service to maintain trade relations. This should be reciprocated.

As an Irish citizen living in Chile, I fully support the need to have an Irish Embassy here, a country with which we share many cultural values

I believe the Irish government should have the courtesy of opening an embassy in Chile just as Chile did over 12 years ago in Dublin.

I think there should definitely be one. As a student abroad, if I need a consulate I have to go to Argentina. Also, I think it could attract more Irish students
