http://www.omct.org/human-rights-defenders/urgent-interventions/iran/2011/05/d21263/ I am writing to express my concern at the detention of Ms Maryam Bahreman and Ms Mahbubeh Karami - I believe there to be concern for their welfare and safety. I would greatly appreciate your assistance with this matter and ask that you honour the requests made by The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT) and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH. Could you personally guarantee   the physical and psychological well being of Ms. Maryam Bahreman and Ms. Mahbubeh Karami, and extend this protection to all human rights defenders in Iran;such that they are not exposed to intimidation or detained arbitrarily. Please disclose the whereabouts of Ms. Bahreman, and release Ms. Bahreman and Ms. Karami immediately and unconditionally,their detention is arbitrary and aims to sanction their human rights activities; Kindly show clemency and see that all charges are dropped and put an end to any kind of harassment - against Ms. Maryam Bahreman and Ms. Mahbubeh Karami; I would like to see an end to all acts of harassment against Ms. Maryam Bahreman and Ms. Mahbubeh Karami as well as against all human rights defenders in Iran;

Would Iran honour in all circumstances the provisions of the Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, adopted on December 9, 1998 by the United Nations General Assembly, in particular: - its article 1, which states that "everyone has the right, individually or in association with others, to promote the protection and realization of human rights and fundamental freedoms at the national and international levels"; - its article 5.b, which states that "everyone has the right, individually and in association with others, at the national and international levels, (…) to form, join and participate in non-governmental organizations, associations or groups"; - its article 6.b, which states that "everyone has the right, individually and in association with others (…) freely to publish, impart or disseminate to others views, information and knowledge on all human rights and fundamental freedoms; - its article 12.2 which provides that "the State shall take all necessary measures to ensure the protection by the competent authorities of everyone, individually and in association with others, against any violence, threats, retaliation, de facto or de jure adverse discrimination, pressure or any other arbitrary action as a consequence of his or her legitimate exercise of the rights referred to in the present Declaration"; vi. Would Iran ensure in all circumstances respect for individual human rights and fundamental freedoms in accordance with international human rights standards and international instruments ratified by Iran. I greatly appreciate your assistance and and hope this situation can be resolved as soon as possible Yours faithfully
