AT&T has officially changed their policy to allow the unlocking of devices that have reached the end of their contract period. I am pleased that our request for ownership rights was acknowledged and finally acted upon. Thank you for maintaining your focus until this outcome was reached.

Thank you AT&T for allowing us to unlock our phones! Petition is finished!

This petition is to unlock iPhones no longer under contract from AT&T. This includes the Original iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4/4S once the contract term has expired.
We paid for our iPhones for 2 years and we should have the right to do whatever we want with them. I can't even take my iPhone 2G to another country to use while im on vacation without having to jailbreak! It's just plain wrong. We are 4 years out and they still refuse to unlock a phone we own! They are forcing us to use AT&T even when it is not available in some foreign countries.
This is illegal in Europe!
Help spread the word to Facebook and anywhere else you can think of... Trust me, once your iPhone 4/4S is out of contract, you'll be glad you did.

Please contact the FCC and let them know how you feel about this(FCC Complaints). I already did. There is no justification for keeping our phones locked when we have paid for it already! I remember Cingular, after your contract ended, you called and they gave you a code to press.... walla! Your phone was unlocked!  Sign up below!

The feedback regarding these contract policies remains consistent as many users report persistent challenges with their devices. I am currently documenting these recent experiences to ensure our position remains clear when we present this to the company.

The momentum behind this request is truly heartening. It is clear that many people feel the same frustration regarding the ownership of their devices once contracts conclude.

Unlocked phones should be the standard. Why on earth do they care if I keep using their service or not after my contact is done?

About time. AT&T is the absolute worst with this stuff. Glad this is finally getting sorted out.

Finally. Been waiting to switch carriers for months and they kept giving me the runaround. Ridiculous that they hold onto a device you paid off.
