We, the Registered Nurses of Kaiser South Sacramento ICU, hereby insist that we become a locked unit with the practice of voluntary floating only. Current practice violates the contract and forces multiple nurses to involuntarily float on a daily basis. We are not the float department. Please review the contract literature on "Float Department, "Section F, paragraphs 520 thru 523, and "Voluntary Floating,” Section G, paragraph 524 and 531. Please also refer to the "CNA Contract Q&A" per the float policy on page 8 which states that KP and CNA have agreed to pursue a "Voluntary Floating Only" policy to address the concerns of Registered Nurses who are required to float between nursing units on an involuntary basis. Last, see Appendix E, paragraph 2 which gives the nurse the right to decline an assignment outside of their home unit. Kaiser is expected to follow and respect the CNA contract, therefore a prompt response and change is needed. Please respond by June 6, 2014. Thank you.
